How to Use
Each Two Point Magnetic Dry Erase Pocket has a small but strong neodymium magnet tab at the top, next to the metal eyelet. If your pocket slides or falls off, start here. The fix is usually quick.
Mount it the right way (the most common fix)
- Hold the pocket upright with the magnet tab facing you.
- Place the flat back of the pocket against the magnet-friendly surface, directly behind the tab.
- You should feel it snap into place.
Don't flip the pocket around so the tab touches the surface. The magnet is built to grip through the back of the pocket.
Don't fold the tab up or back to reach the surface. It works lying flat.
Check your surface
Quick test: if a regular fridge magnet sticks firmly to the spot, the pocket should too.
- Works well: painted steel fridges, filing cabinets, lockers, tool chests, shelving, doors, and most steel-backed whiteboards.
- Won't work: many stainless steel fridges, aluminum, plastic, wood, glass, and drywall.
- May not hold well: boards where the steel sits under a thick coating, laminate, or glass layer.
For other surfaces, hang the pocket from the metal eyelet with a hook, nail, or binder ring.
Keep the load light enough
- How many pages a pocket holds depends mostly on the surface. As a rough guide for letter-size pockets: about 5 pages on a weak spot like a light switch screw, 10 or more on a smooth appliance like a washing machine, up to about 20 on a typical fridge, and even more on solid steel like a water heater or steel door.
- Letter-size pockets have one magnet tab.
- Huge pockets have two magnet tabs. Mount them the same way: tabs facing you, back of the pocket against the surface.
- On vertical surfaces, a thick stack can pull the pocket down. Remove a few pages or hang it from the eyelet.
- The magnet grips best on a flat, clean spot. Curves, ridges, and textured panels weaken it.
When the magnet isn't strong enough
Our neodymium magnet is strong for its size, but it is still small, and it won't match a large dedicated magnet. In a few setups it truly won't hold, even when mounted correctly:
- Steel buried under a thick coating, laminate, or glass. A bigger magnet may stick there while our tab slides.
- Surfaces with only a thin layer of steel or magnetic paint.
- Heavy stacks of pages on a vertical surface.
If an empty pocket, mounted the right way, still slides, the surface is the limit. Hang it from the eyelet instead.
Writing and erasing
- Use dry erase markers on the front (markers not included). The elastic loop at the top keeps one handy.
- Wipe with a dry cloth or eraser. For older marks, use a little whiteboard cleaner or rubbing alcohol.
- Avoid permanent markers. If one slips through, write over it with a dry erase marker and wipe.
Inserting and removing pages
- Letter-size pockets fit standard 8.5 x 11 in pages.
- Huge pockets fit pages up to 11 x 17 in, depending on the model.
- Slide pages in from the top. To remove them, hold the pocket by the top edge and slide them out.
Storing pockets
Pockets snap together at the magnet tabs, so you can keep a stack together.
